Topic: Changes in weather and climate extremes and their causes

Abstract:

IPCC 2007 has concluded that “confidence has increased that some extremes will become more frequent, more widespread and/or more intense during the 21st century”. This conclusion comes about because of cumulative evidences from the observations, the model simulations, and the comparison of observations and model simulations. However, there were not many studies attempting to attribute the causes of changes in extremes. This talk briefly reviews approaches that have been taken to improve our ability to attribute changes in climate extremes to specific causes.
