讲座内容介绍:

In gas turbine world, attack by molten ash deposits is known to be a major problem to endanger these engine safety and efficiency. In aviation, natural ash in the atmosphere, whether these ash particles are volcanic in origin (i.e., volcanic ash) or terrestrial (e.g., desert sand and dust), may present a critical risk to jet engine safety. Over the past 30 years, more than 100 commercial aircraft have inadvertently traversed volcanic ash clouds with variably disastrous results; at least seven of these encounters caused in-flight loss of jet engine power, nearly resulting in the crash of the affected aircraft4. On land, the detrimental effects of coal ash, fly ash and biomass ash generated by combustion in land-based gas turbines include decreased efficiency, unscheduled outages, equipment failures, and high cleaning costs. In ocean-going vessels, ash derived from oil combustion (including crude oil, residual and ‘bunker fuel’) presents a significant threat to efficient turbine operation, as salt-and metal-rich ash formed from burning of liquid fuel oils leads to huge maintenance issues. All of ash-related issues above mentioned in all gas turbine area direct consequence of molten ash wetting in gas turbines. To understand deposition of ash lies at the very core of their relevance to Science and Engineering field.
