Topic : What controls the interannual variability of tropical cyclone activity over the western North Pacific?

Speaker : Prof.Yuqing Wang, University of Hawaii at Manoa

Research Interest: Atmospheric dynamics, Physical meteorology, Atmosphere-land interaction, Air-sea interaction, Global and regional atmospheric modeling.

Host : Prof. Xiaogu Zheng

Abstract: In this talk, attempts will be given to address what controls the interannual variability of tropical cyclone activity over the western North Pacific (WNP). In particular, contributions of ENSO and sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) in the East Indian Ocean (EIO) to the interannual variability of tropical cyclone (TC) frequency over WNP and the involved physical mechanisms are studied based on both observational analysis and numerical simulations using the IPRC regional climate model.

Time: 11:00-12:00 AM, 24th Jun(Friday), 2011

Venue: GCESS Simulation Hall,1st floor, Sci&Tech Building
