TitleGreenland ice sheet responses to transient climate change

Speaker Diandong Ren

The University of Texas at Austin , Austin, USA

Dr. Diandong Ren is the speaker for the seminar. His undergraduate degree is in Climatology from Nanjing Institute of meteorology where he graduated cum laude. Diandong Ren obtained all the graduate degrees (MS, PhD) from the University of Oklahoma (2001, 2004). Dr. Ren’s research is interdisciplinary and covers land surface modeling; ecosystem response to a warming climate; glacier/ice sheet dynamic modeling; and natural hazards such as storm-triggered landslides. Diandong Ren is the author of a scalable, extensible and adaptable geo-fluid model (nicknamed SEGMENT) that is the primary tool for his current research. The SEGMENT is a unified approach for a disparate set of poorly understood phenomena in geophysical flows/movements such as glacier sudden surge. It is also capable enough to describe nutrient contest between different vegetation types, under known climate conditions (so comes -ENT in the nickname). Because of the excellent performance of the SEGMENT, Dr. Ren’s research had been profiled by quite a few outstanding magazines.
